February is J Dilla month and as it is coming to a close I wanted to take a moment to remember and reflect on his legacy and contribution to hip hop. So I must step away from Columbus to Detroit for a moment to pay homage to the man who opened a lot of our ears. Producer/DJ J Rawls latest project of many is titled #OhioTakeOver is due out today. It’s a mixtape combining the abundance of talent in Ohio and from what I understand and know about the talent on it YOU HAVE TO BUY IT. It also contains the single We’re On Top which will be on his upcoming album THE HIP-HOP AFFECT . Details and a gift to those who are awake now are on his blog site which include track listings and for now a gift. I do not know how long this will last but head there now. His upcoming album THE HIP-HOP AFFECT is coming in May 2011 so look out for that.
Known primarily for his producing skills with Black Star Rawls contributed production on “Brown Skin Lady” and “Yo, Yeah” in 1998, J .Rawls has displayed his gift with may projects following. Consistant, quality albums that display the many branches of Hip Hop. Projects and collaborations such as The 1960’s Jazz Revolution Again, The Liquid Crystal Project, Vol. 2 and Rawls and Middle J.
