Violence has been ravishing neighborhoods in the Greater Cleveland area for the past five years, and the people of this city are tired! They are tired of kids killing kids; tired of fear-filled residents; tired of being taglined as one of the most dangerous cities in America.

Dr. R.A Vernon, Founder & Senior Pastor of “THE WORD” CHURCH, musical artist and motivational speaker, Ray Jr., Ted Ginn Jr. of the San Francisco 49ers, FunGame Sports and other community leaders will unite to help Black Out Violence. This event will be the launch of a movement that will allow the great people of Cleveland to regain authority of their neighborhoods. The recent events of over 13 murders in a short period of time has motivated Dr. Vernon to gather every young person, every parent, and every community representative to speak to the issue of violence that has plagued our city.

The event will commence with an open forum to allow youth and their families the opportunity to address this pressing issue that has targeted their communities. Dr. R.A.Vernon, along with Donte Whitner of the San Francisco 49ers, Tae Heckard, of the hit television series, “The Game”, Magistrate Ratonio Rucker of Cuyahoga County Juvenile Court, Colby Colb, Radio Personality (Radio One), musical artist and motivational speaker, Ray Jr., Tiesha Purnell, School Psychologist of the Cleveland Metropolitan School District, Steve Sanders of the Steve Sanders Academy, and motivational speaker, Basheer Jones, will serve as panelist during our “open forum” to not only allow our youth to speak out, but to discuss next steps toward alleviating the great pains that violence has caused the city of Cleveland.

Additionally, Radio One, B&M Restaurant, and the Urban Design Suite will work in partnership as well to create an informative and fun night for the city to enjoy. Along with feeding every person that will be in attendance, the event will include a step team performance, the Shaw High School Marching Band, a celebrity flag football and high school all-star basketball game, video presentations and other activities that the attendees can enjoy while making a direct impact to reverse the city’s uproar of violent activity.

The rally is only the first phase in the Black Out Violence movement! The B.O.V rally will be followed by phase two encompassing the visiting of various school districts and locations in the Greater Cleveland area. Every young person in Cleveland should know that if there is an opportunity for an influx of positive statistics, it starts with educational awareness. The three phase movement will conclude with a community march to show unity between every race, culture and ethnicity within the city.
