MC Lyte

When I was a kid, I couldn’t wait until I was 18 so I could tell MC Lyte I was a roughneck. Not only is she beautiful, she is dope…not only my favorite female MC…but MC Lyte is one of my favorite MCs PERIOD.

Recently I was able to interview her about her new song, career, and just some general things.

Check the interview, listen to the new songs, and peep what MC Lyte has to say….because she still HAS something to say.

—————————–

Essince: How are you, Ms. Lyte? First of all thanks for doing this interview with me. I’ve been a big fan since…well…since I can remember. haha

MC Lyte: I’M GREAT. OVER HERE GRINDING AS USUAL. TRYING TO MAKE A DOLLAR OUT OF 15 CENTS.

E: I’m really diggin’ the single, “Rockin’ With the Best” but the song and video for “the Wonder Years” are sick. What made you want to come back to hip hop?

L: I LOVE HIP HOP. CAN’T SEEM TO LEAVE IT ALONE NOR DO I REALLY WANT TO. IT’S THE ONE FORM OF ENTERTAINMENT WHERE I CAN JUST BE ME AND SAY EXACTLY WHAT I FEEL. I LIKE GOING INTO THE STUDIO AND CREATING..IT’S THE BEST FEELING IN THE WORLD!!

E: You are still as beautiful as when I first saw you. In “Wonder Years” you said you keep your “youthful glow” with H2O, kicking alcohol, and a secret….what’s your secret?

L: THANK YOU!!! THE SECRET? WATER. THAT’S NO LIE. THE BODY NEEDS IT, ALWAYS.

E: Who initially inspired you to be an emcee? And who/what inspired you to come out with new songs?

L: I WAS INSPIRED BY SO MANY PEOPLE AND SO MANY TYPES OF MUSIC IT’S HARD TO JUST NAME ONE. SALT N PEPA, RUN DMC, DOUG E FRESH, KURTIS BLOW, SWEET T, SPARKY D, SEQUENCE, JANET JACKSON, MICHAEL JACKSON, TEENA MARIE, MARY J BLIGE. MUSIC IN GENERAL!!!

E: What do you think of female MCs today?

L: THEY ARE EVERYWHERE!! I LOVE THAT WOMEN WANT TO USE THEIR VOICES AND STAND UP IN A MALE DOMINATED INDUSTRY.

E: What are your plans for this album?

L: STILL RECORDING THE NEW PROJECT. I REALLY WANT TO TAKE MY TIME AND I CAN SO I DON’T HAVE THE PRESSURE OF MAKING DEADLINES AND THINGS. I CAN TRULY LOOK FORWARD TO A RELEASE WHEN IT’S TIME.
THIS PROJECT IS GOING TO BE VERY PERSONAL AND I’M ADDRESSING ISSUES THAT HAVE AFFECTED MY LIFE.

E: I was at your myspace and see some of the songs you have up still rep NY. In an era of Hip Hop where the game isn’t necessarily looking to New York, how important is it for you to rep where you’re from?

L: AS IMPORTANT AS I MAKE IT I GUESS. I CAN CHOOSE OTHER TOPICS OR I CAN TALK ABOUT EVERYTHING AND STILL REP MY HOMETOWN THE WAY I ALWAYS HAVE. BK RAISED ME AND IS A VERY IMPORTANT PART OF MY LIFE AND UPBRINGING.

E: Did you ever find your rough neck?

L: LOL, A FEW.

E: Anything else you’d like to say to young emcees or just females in general?

L: KEEP THE DREAM ALIVE AND THE WAY THE DREAM COMES TRUE IS TO WAKE UP AND MAKE IT HAPPEN.
